IKEA’s first External Vendor in Canada

The Challenge

IKEA Canada’s Service Office needed design support for country-wide initiatives at the store level. The challenge was to deliver high-quality, functional graphics and materials that aligned with IKEA’s meticulous standards while navigating the unique processes of a large retail organization.

The Strategic Shift

To address capacity constraints within the Service Office design team, external design support was introduced to maintain momentum on store-level initiatives. Global creative direction from IKEA Sweden was localized and operationalized for Canada, the U.S., and select European markets, ensuring consistency while accounting for regional requirements. The work focused on physical retail environments, supporting both internal operations, as well as customer-facing retail communications. This approach enabled scalable execution without compromising IKEA’s global standards.

The Outcome

IKEA Canada engaged an external design partner to support country-wide, store-level initiatives through the Service Office. The work contributed to the successful rollout of national programs across retail environments, delivering functional, consistent, and intentionally designed solutions aligned with IKEA’s operational standards. Projects were implemented across stores nationwide.
